Getting the touch shield v1.0 to work

Newbie here.
I have downloaded the sketch for v1.0 2.8 TFT from the wiki product page. Every time I try to verify one of the downloaded sketches I get all types of errors in the sketch. Not being a programmer guy, I am very frustrated by this. Any suggestions before I take it back to Radio Shack? There are 9 sketches in the download and I get compile errors in everyone I could open.
